Teaching Philosophy

I’m sure many students have a teacher whom they look up to, or remember inspiring them, and for me it was my high school calculus instructor. High school level math and beyond can no doubt be intimidating, and I was fortunate enough to have someone like her as my biggest supporter of my education. She encouraged me to actively participate in my learning and taught me to believe in myself in that I can do whatever I put my mind to. Now it's my turn to be a mentor for my own students.

Just like my math teacher I aim to create a safe learning environment for my students and encourage them to take control of their education. They will be given the tools to be able to construct their own knowledge, rather than receive information passively, to form deeper connections. I believe school should be a place to explore your interests and set you on your way to achieving your aspirations, and all of that begins with hands-on experiences and collaborative group work.

My role is to act as a facilitator or guide for my students and promote healthy classroom discussions, elicit student responses and ideas, and model how confident students can think or learn effectively. I aspire to always encourage my students to value learning and find what they're passionate about.

I owe my love of math and my confidence in my teaching abilities to my terrific math teacher, and I hope to continue the amazing legacy that teachers hold and inspire the next generation of students to discover their own passion for learning.
